  1. I found a good video on You Tube by Shmoop. He had many good ideas about double checking citations in a paper. Double checking is important so you don't misspell any names or parts of quotes. He also talked about the importance of keeping quotes short so the reader doesn't get bored by reading a quote by a different author. Citations are important because they add value to the work. Most importantly quotes should be used to back up your argument not to make your argument because its your paper and your story. In closing be original have your own thoughts and use citations to prove your point.

  2. Using citations effectively can back up your argument. Citations also give us where you found the information or a source to refer to. A citation also gives credit to the person who wrote the information or discovered it.

  3. When you are writing an argumentative essay or an opinion essay you give information and facts to back up your side of the argument. How do citations back you up? You are giving factional information that you have researched and didn't make up. Citations also gives the reader a web page or book that they themselves could look up the information. It also gives the author who wrote the information in the first place some credit.

    1. Anthony,

I definitely agree with your point that citations must be used in the correct way in order to give credit where credit is due! Why do you think the effective use of citations/quotations is important in the context of academic/scholarly writing (such as argumentative/opinionated/persuasive essays)?

  6. The importance of using citation effectively is so that people may trace back your materials and evidence that were used. Also citing evidence gives credit to the author whose works were used in your writing. Another thing citations are used for is to keep someone from plagiarizing.

  7. Using citations effectively is crucial to writing a proper essay because it shows that you understand how to bolster your argument with proper formatting, rather than just by importing someone else's words. It doesn't matter how sharp and thoughtful your quote is if you don't know how to frame it. That just makes it look like you're using it as an indication of "smartness" to mask the fact that you have no clue what you're doing on a technical level.

  8. Citations give credit to the work of another person and helps avoid plagiarism.
Citations should be used to help back up your argument, and not to make your argument.

  9. Using citations effectively and correctly is vital to great, academic writing. Without quotes from other reliable sources, readers may only see an essay as opinion, as there is no proof or support behind it. However, if a writer makes his/her argument only by using quotes, then he/she is not bringing a new, revised, and/or interesting view to the table, so readers may very well find the essay unoriginal and rather pointless. Thus, writers must have a balance between their own ideas and citations; they must use citations to support their arguments, not to make them. Furthermore, citations must be consistent in format with the rest of the text, so that they flow well and do not stick out. The best citations are ones that have been seamlessly woven throughout an essay to beautifully back the writer's arguments!

  10. sing citations in an effective manner will give credit to the original author and will provide a source of evidence for an assignment. The proper use of citations will also give the readers a valid source to research on their own.

  13. It is important that anyone who is incorporating information that did not directly come from them, learn to properly cite their sources. Effectively citing sources is vital to developing a strong piece of writing because it proves that you can give credibility to someone who had the idea first. Additionally, no one wants to be graded with plagiarism. It is always better to just give credit to the person with the original idea, and simply refer to that person or website when ever you wish to include your own ideas.

  15. Using Citations Effectively is a very important tool to help you create ideas and get references. This allows you to use someones else work, but you need to give the credit to the proper owner of the writing piece.

  16. The Importance of using citations correctly may save you from a copyright claim, or it may bring someone you love that much more fame. If used correctly, you can tell others about someone else’s great works. But, if used incorrectly, you can steal his seat, and even gain a copyright claim from the original creator.
